Damn, I spent $21 on *my* Cylobian Sunset! :-( Um, anyway, the Metalheadz comp is old stuff and new stuff (I dont' know which tunes are which, not being intimately familiar with the label (except I know Reece's is old)) and it all sounds like all the stuff on Metalheadz. I know, that's not a great description, but it fits. Both CDs are about 65 min long each and have 8 (I think) songs. It's all standard Metalheadz jungle (since I'm not a learned connisseuer (sp?) of drum'n'bass yet). Hope this helps.... cya brian

I gave it a whirl at my local record shop. I didn't feel it was worth the money. Plus I think this one is going to get a domestic release. But the new Alex Reece LP, _So Far_ is very nice. Yeah, even if it does come out domestic, the price difference will prob'ly be negligible (2CD (UK) = $30, 2CD (USA) = $28-30 usually).

Is this domestic? I read in ICE it was s'posed to be out now in the US, but have only seen the import. cya brian

Logical Progression which is a 2CD, was priced at $30 for the import. It was just released domestically. I saw it for $18 last week.

The version I got was import. But worth it. As long as it doesn't go domestic next week. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Enquiring minds want to know. Like Mine +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

and i just bought it 30 minutes ago for $14.99 at Tower Records. (two second verdict: verrry nice but lots of cliche samples in there... "loon garden" and whale calls... yeesh.) double CDs are actually coming way down in price. and import or domestic status doesn't seem to apply... case in point: at the same Tower Records, i bought Ninja Cuts: Flexistentialism for $17.99 (import) and Meat Beat Manifesto: Subliminal Sandwich for $18.99 (domestic). go figure. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Jon Drukman jsd@cyborganic.com -------------------------------------------------------------------------

It's a decent drum'n bass comp, but not without heavy flaws. Indeed Metalheadz is definitely a time capsule for innovative jungle, and this comp captures all the early experimentation in dense breaks. It also demonstrates just how far musicians have taken the genre since Metalheadz erupted many years ago. About 1/3 of the tracks are wonderful, but the other 2/3 is tired, boring, lifeless diva wankery. onnow: futique "luv luv" (instinct) Lame Thread Prevention in Effect: Aaron Michelson --------------------------------------------------------------------- aw-teck'r (autechre) "Everything you Know is Wrong" For reviews, interviews, art & trash http://www.on-it.net/~aaron/ aaron@defiant.on-it.net

Delete the diva-ful cuts, and the rest is quite classic d&b. D&B has evolved beyond these cuts already, but that doesn't invalidate their quality. Standout cuts: Photek sampling Golden Palominos (Lori Carson vox) and "The Angels Fell". 3

I think most of the stuff is very impressive, except for a few very boring trax... IMO, Disc 2 prevails as the better one.. the first song on disc 2 just blows me away.. -matt

sorry to those who couldn't care less... don't really know much about them, but see them mentioned quite a bit and thought i might mention that while i was updating the Slip Disc web site, there was *alot* of Metalheadz stuff listed as limited restock... no idea if this stuff is hard to pick up or not, but there was quite a bit... no idea whats left of it (appearently the list went out on Friday... I didn't get it then, but it got resent today... so 1/2 the stuff may be gone already) anyways, thought I might mention it case someone might be into it... http://www.sonic.net/~brap/slipdisc/ its listed at the end of the *restock* list... the new stock list isn't updated yet, just in case you happen to check it out... working on that now...
