I just watched the AMP episode I taped from two weekends ago, and I have but one comment: The video for Coldcut's "Natural Rhythm" is the best one I've seen, of all the ones they've shown on AMP. By far. I have a feeling I'm going to be disappointed with all future AMP transmissions because of this video. the basic idea in "natural rhythm" has been done repeatedly by Emergency Broadcast Network many times in the past... check out an EBN vid. (or get their Telecommunication Breakdown CD which, apart from being produced by Jack Dangers of Meat Beat Manifesto (making it a Must Own right there), has several quicktime movies in the multimedia portion). not to say that coldcut's version isn't good - i think it's *very* good... -j-

That's funny that you mentioned this. I also just watched the tapes of this show the other night, and snips of that exact vid have been running thru my mind at odd times throughout the day, forcing me to resist laughter. It's a proof of the concept that "If you repeat anything enough times, it becomes funny." This video is creatively ridiculous in that Coldcut style we know and love. The bass drum bug and the rhythmically exploding seed pods, all choreographed to the rhythm, were personal fave moments. Raises the perrenial (sic) question: Which came first, the video or the audio? 3

The coldcut single atomic moog 2000/boot the system has mpeg and quicktime versions of the video. Supposedly there are going to be 2 more singles and videos before the coldcut album is released this summer. -steve On Tue, 18 Feb 1997, Adam J Weitzman wrote:

Interesting idea but it could have been more fully realized. Much better was the Chibo Matto video by bjork vid. director Michel Gondry, which I thought was pretty freaking brilliant and totally original. Gondry is probably the best person making music videos these days. BTW, on the video tip I saw the new beck video last night (directed by beck) and there is a scene where him and his band are all dressed in black with thin black ties and slicked down hair & strapped on computers and synths in a dead on immitation of Kraftwerk. _____ / ,-,_) /,_) (/ RESH Live & Direct from the G-Spot, Orange County, California, USA http://www1.linkonline.net/fresh/fresh.htm

Yeah, I saw this video last night as well. The Kraftwerk tribute (think Man Machine) was unexpected, but definitely cool. I also loved the spirograph multi-colored effects Beck threw into the video. Of course all this glitz was balanced by Beck's messed up hair and overgrown sideburns. Overall, one of the better vids I've seen lately. | E r i c | [mail] franse@engr.arizona.edu | | F r a n s | [web] http://intermix.engr.arizona.edu/~franse | "Make the events occur that you want to occur" - The Black Dog
