It is probably not the case that Mike Ditka (American football doofus cited as an example of a higher-up in the NFL organization) is a big jungle fan or that he is even aware of its existence. There is no direct conspiracy by NFL management. Rather, the NFL employs ad agencies. The ad agencies hire talented "creative types" off the street. The creative types then try to outdo one another on the hipness scale. If I worked in advertising, I'd probably try to use the coolest and or most obscure/inaccessible music I could get away with. Not merely because I like the music, but to impress all my "creative" buddies with my skill and daring in slipping AFX into a tire ad. So it is actually the fault of these creative types, taking the music they like to the masses. SO, if you want to save your music--don't tell anyone about it. Time to disband the list. Matt

Speaking of AFX and sports ads/music... am I the only one who thinks that 'Entrance to Exit' would make great music for an NBA highlight reel? :) +-------------------------+-------------------------------------+ | Ryan Visima | richard d james: aphex twin | | rvisima@astral.magic.ca | http://www.magic.ca/~rvisima/aphex/ | +-------------------------+----------------+--------------------+ | nine inch nails: the art of self destruction |Performa 6320CD | | http://www.magic.ca/~rvisima/nin/ |48MB/1.2GB/4xCD | +----------------------------------------------+----------------+

Word. People who don't work in the entertainment/advertising/publishing business forget that many of the people in those businesses are young hipsters who really want to make their sell-out job a little more fun by introducing cool stuff to the masses. Most people think that the big media companies have "spies" who listen on this mailing list, like for example a recent post about MTV spying on the list. It's hard to call some 22 year old kid who works at MTV's web page and buys lots of breakbeat records a "spy" just because he/she uses info from their music fanzine mailing list to help make their job more interesting.
