Its amazing how many mainstream people are jumping hard and fast on the drum + bass bandwagon : its becoming a little annoying rattling noise rather than a progressive new form of music when its in the hands of the mainstream. I am talking about hearing Bowie on Saturday Night live singing away with a basic drum + bass loop playing in the background : He used to be a leader, now he just seems to follow... There are a lot of really good developments of the style : Lamb is a good example of a development into new areas of drums + more (so is Jet Chamber3 but I am biased) . It was cute when Everything but the Girl did it, but does everyone in the mainstream of music have to have a Photek remix to sell their product ? If it is done well I have no problem with it , but I think its going get pretty jaded pretty fast : I am waiting for Drum + Bass car ads and shite like that to start appearing a la : " Booyakka ! buy a Toyota " " Its a jungle out there : buy a Ford" I am not trying to slam drum + bass , I love it : maybe its because I do that it annoys me when I see the bandwagon effect happen : The creation of new dynamic forms in music is what keeps it alive but oversaturation and dilution can weaken it. (if you know what I mean) . America needs to get a bit more on the dancey tip and get off the Gangsta hip hop tip : thats happening already with shows like AMP on TV and more radio stations playing good old electronica and new hip-hop like dr octagon and DJ shadow coming out that cross-over : maybe mainstream acts putting D+B into the mix will introduce the masses to the joys of mad beats and a lot of new interesting artists will be able to get their stuff out there... only time will tell : respects c . u . e . f a x l a b e l u . s . a . 8 7 e t h e l a v e n u e # 2 , m i l l v a l l e y . c a l i f o r n i a 9 4 9 4 1 . 4 1 5 3 8 3 7 9 9 0 real audio sound bites and more... http://www.sirius.com/~faxlabel/ (appearing as a rebel pilot with the ewoks in the Star Wars Trilogy)

Too late -- NFL (American Football) already has an ad with jungle breakbeats. --------------------------------------------------------------------- "i love the smell of new carpet. it makes me dizzy. just like when you fall in love." -- Mike Dvorkin Home Page, featuring Reagan on Black Velvet, the EMP Compilation CD, samples of my music, etc http://soli.inav.net/~kent/ Kent Williams kent@inav.net CADSI 2651 Crosspark Road Coralville IA 52241 (319) 338 6053 (home) (319) 626 6700 x 219 (work) (319) 626 3488 (fax)
