Art. Hehe. I liked it the first time I saw it....when it was called Bram Stoker's Dracula.

Word up, Gonzi! Mark Romanek usually does good, pretty, lush (albeit gaudy) videos, but this one is a little too, oh, too trent. It is hardly a peice of art. I saw this video the other night and hafta say that I'm not worried at all about the assimilation of drum-n-bass by mainstream artists. Yeah, it definately has drum-n-bass stuff in it. But the other 85% of it is traditional nin-cheeze. What worries me is all of these folks who are remixing him. I mean, with the exception of the fast drum riffs the song is crap. Hell, even the fast drum riffs are crap. Why would good musicians want to remix it? If they are remixing it for money or for brown-nosing reasons (Plug and Meat Beat Manifesto are Interscop-ophiliacs and may want to gain favors with trent) it would mean that the assimilation of d&b artists will involve forcing artists to make crap. Yikes! Maybe going mainstream is bad after all! Now, if these guys are doing it because they genuinely think trent has a good song on his hands, then I'm really worried... -Chris

My money is on, erm, money. I remember something from the liner notes of "Aunt Aubrie's blah blah" where Alex Patterson talks about how the Orb basically tours and records on the proceeds of their remix work. Not to mention that having your group's name on a NIN single is a nice bit of publicity and may encourage someone to give _your_ stuff a listen. maybe they actually LIKE the song. or maybe they think they can improve on it. or maybe they just want the publicity. just cos you think it sucks doesn't mean everybody else thinks it sucks.

MBM and Plug (and other Nothing Records artists) don't get any money out of the deal. look on the bright side, maybe they will remix the tune into something you think is cool. i personally can't wait to hear the MBM mix. trent was apparently so blown away by it that he listened to it 8 times in a row.

if you don't like the song, don't listen.

RDJ's said many times that he only remixes songs that he thinks are crap. Mike P. said in an NME interview that the only reason he remixed the Auteurs stuff was for the money. meat beat manifesto is on the Nothing label, and therefore does the remixes for free (per the contract). But, he did get a Charlie Clouser remix of Asbestos Lead Asbestos in the trade. I can see a good remix of NiN's song to give Jack (mbm) a good rep and hopefully sell a couple more of his albums. *shrug*
