i'm surprised no one has mentioned that the other panacea chrome 12-inch, "stormbringer" (far superior to "tron," imho) uses an autechre break (from "second bad vilbel," i think) here and there throughout. quite well-done... sc

What is the word on Chrome records? I heard about Dark Chrome 2 - Stormbringer (it is suppose to be very dark d n b) and Panacea (Dark Chrome) - Tron (supposedly the darkest d n b of the year). Can anyone give more info on these? I am also curious about the Gerd, what do they sound like? William Samuels

As far as I know, Chrome is run from Germany, possibly by someone from the Khan & Walker scene. The first two releases were by Techno Animal ('Unmanned') and Khan (if I remember correctly), 5 & 6 (or 6 & 7) by Panacea. No idea what 3 & 4 are, but expect anything, since Techno Animal (which would qualify as industrial trip hop or something) and Panacea (loud & dark jungle) are pretty far apart. The "bass" sound of Tron is like the noise of a low passing jet run through a vocoder, and it uses loads of other "how can we make it louder?" cliches to great effect. I love it. The other Panacea (the one with the Autechre sample) is pretty heavy as well, but less over the top. Maarten on now: richie hawtin - 11:96

it's definitely a Force Inc offshoot. just look at the packaging!

Techno Animal and *Kerosene* (see earlier post. poor Mr. Oral! will he ever get the credit he deserves?!) CHROME 5 = Si Begg - "Nothing is What i Want; Boog Me Out/Nothing is True Zen Say; Hair Roller" not quite as strong as his Cabbageboy 12" on NTone (the Planet EP - an instant classic). still waiting to hear his recent Tresor 12"... so i can't compare. but this Chrome platter is on-par with his outstanding contributions to the two Language _Miscellaneous_ compilations. CHROME 6 & 7 are by Panacea. knowing Force Inc, there will be a _Rauschen_-type compilation CD (2CD?) which will collect the entire Chrome series at some point. . .

expect: CHROME 3 = Wipe Out - "China Girl/Two Steps Beyond the Terror" Alec Empire in ECP-mode. breakbeat w/o the DHR abrasiveness. still harsh, just not ear-scouringly so. great 12"! CHROME 4 (not 5, as my last post says) = Ian Pooley as Low Freqency Band. don't know. can't seem to get my hands on this one. might have to go directly to the source! sleepless G2-G4/
