Does anyone know of a Philip Glass tune, well composition really, which involves a single sample of something like 'come out here'? The entire tune is the first two words sampled repeatedly, then split between the right and left channels with a slight delay, so it produces a kind of echoed effect. I saw a recent perfomance by COBA (Collective of Black Artists) at school, and there was one solo dance performance which was inspired by an unfortunate incident in which an african american man opened fire on the public in a New York (?) subway. The Philip Glass tune mentioned above was feature in this incredible performance, and I would love to be able to find this truly compelling musical piece... If anyone knows anything about it, or where I might find more information about it, I would love to hear from you. Please feel free to email me... thanks for your time. Jas jmarwah@trentu.ca

No - not Philip Glass! Heresy! **Steve Reich** - absolute genius. Track "Come Out" is built out of two phase-shifiting tape loops of a young black man saying "I had to, like, open the bruise up and let some of the bruise blood come out to show them" - a description (given to a news reporter - whence the tape) of how the young man speaking managed to 'prove' that he had been subjected to police brutality after having been picked up by the cops without cause. Or something of that nature. GET THIS CD. Brilliant from first digital bit to last. After you hear & read a bit about about Reich, you'll understand how Phil Glass is Minimalist music's version of our beloved Orbital (i.e. hyped but ultimately full of shit). Steve Reich: Early Works (Come Out/Piano Phase/Clapping Music/It's Gonna Rain.) Elektra/Nonesuch Cat. 9 79169-2. IDM if there ever was any.
