I went shopping today (thursday=UPS again)...finally got a copy of
Talvin Singh's "Calcutta Cyber Cafe"
Only 30 minutes into it now and had post this: Unfuckingbeliveable!
Superb rhythm stuff - Indian chants/singing - lots of ambient passages
tons 'o bass - big & wide sounding - some fast (jungle) - some slow
(dubby) - undefinable - cool space samples - tons 'o tabla - just plain
NICE stuff!
the LP is composed of two big tracks:
a) nonstop flight to calcutta - 34 min 36 sec
b) life support systems - 10 min 27 sec
If you like Ravi Shankar and the last track on the Plug album, you'll
love this one!
a Quote from the liner notes:
"Calcutta Cyber Cafe is a virtual band created as a meeting place for
those on a musical journey for global communication and
reconfiguration. In this time of diversity one must still defy
categorization in life as in music and this album I believe does so.
Disparate passages in the music weave into the overall design invoking a
vibe of chance encounters and deliberation. All journeys are linear in
time and space and that linear progress is reflected in the order I have
written and produced this album. Enjoy the flight"
