Just 20 minutes ago I picked up my copy of µ-Ziq's Urmur Bile Trax Volume 1,
and I was quite dissapointed.. It is a nice record indeed, but it's nothing
near as good as I would expect Mike Paradinas to come up with.
The entire ep? Well, in a few words: boring; repetative; conservative.
All the tracks of which are Jungle, simple and pure, are much too typical. I
like Jungle, and typical stuff is cool, but I reckon I expected more than this
from Paradinas.
Here's a short summary of each track:
A side:
Urmur Bile - Typical drum'n'bass.. a couple snarerushes AFX/SqP style, but
just typical jungle rhythms. (9:07)
Let Let - More typical drum'n'bass.. This one is more like the stuff from RDJ.
(7:10)
B Side:
M5 Saabtone - This is a bit more interesting, at least it's not typical d&b and
it's not like AFX or Squarepusher. still I'm afraid to say, not too special a
track. (10:09)
Finetuning - Another track kind of interesting, not typical drum&bass. If I
didn't know better, I'd say it was a mix between jazz/drum&bass.
The first two tracks are kind of good as drum&bass tracks, but the last 2
tracks leave a lot to be desired.
This is just my opinion.. and I thought I would write a review for all you
IDM'ers. :)
