I've got to agree with the statement that RDJ contains some really, really
beautiful stuff. The opening song, "4", gets stuck in my head just at the
mention of it, because of the beautiful strings and the counter-melody.
The girl/boy song, although originally released on its own EP of course,
is quite possibly the first IDMish thing I've ever heard my wife say "I
love this song". I've gotta say, it dropped my jaw and left me smiling
for a while.
Anyway, listen to RDJ again (it won't take long, considering that
RDJ+Girl/Boy = 45 minutes). I'll definitely agree that some ideas could
have been more fleshed out, but I don't find myself waiting for tracks to
end (like I do with the first track on "I care...").
It really seems like there's lots of live strings on this album, too.
Anyone care to comment? I must really be coming off as the string
fanatic, with my drooling post over the Brodsky Quartet's reworking of
Bjork's "hyperballad", but it's only coincedence, really...
