I really thought it was all a plot.
I was beginning to think that the Cold War was beginning again, that perhaps greenish England was no more, and that the Aphex Twin had been secretly replaced by a Thompson Twin.
That's when panic set in.
Rather than screaming and running and smashing my favorite slot machine (thanks again, David, for the fab quote, won't even mention the obscene gesture in the GQ photo), as one would do in the late 70s, I simply sent my despairing plea to the idm list, which promply did away with my fears, not to mention any pretensions to powers of abstraction!
