Welcome to the official 1996 IDM Poll! This year, there will be some changes in the poll's administration, so please read over the following before you vote. This biggest change involves the voting process itself. This year, voting will be divided into two phases: nominations and final voting. Anyone who wishes to may vote in either phase - preferably both! The nomination phase of voting will closely resemble the polls held in previous years. Voters may vote for whatever they wish. Final voting will be limited in each category among the 5 most popular nominees from the first phase. For instance, if the 1995 poll were held in this manner, the final vote would be between 'Tri Repetae,' 'I Care Because You Do,' 'Makesaracket,' 'Spanners,' and 'Throbbing Pouch.' I'll take votes in each phase for 10 days, so ballots in the nominations phase are due by 9:00 PM Pacific time on the 20th. I'll be posting a reminder or two. In addition, there are some changes to the categories this year. "Best Drum & Bass Album" joins the poll, and "Who'll Spark Us Up Next Year" exits. Rules on voting: Everything released in 1996 is eligible. If you vote for something released before this year, I'll ignore that vote; the rest of your ballot will still be counted, of course. I've also decided that any full-length release with tracks all by a single artist under the same name is an album (last year, votes for Aphex's 'Classics' and the Black Dog's 'Parallel' counted in the compilation category). Finally, 'Headz 2 A' and 'Headz 2 B' count as two separate comps. Finally, this year's poll has a sponsor. Modern Music (www.modernmusic.com) will be offering a $50 gift certificate in a random drawing of all ballots I receive. If you vote in both phases, you double your chances of winning! The ballot for nominations follows. Just fill in the blanks, and send it to cspot@hyperreal.com.
