Hi everyone, This is a bizarre/random post of some quick opinions on a bunch of stuff I picked up this week. These opinions may change with repeated listenings of below material, so discuss, but no flames please! :-) Sun Electric - 'Present' WOW - SE on a light jungle trip! Fans of Sun Electric will not be disappointed with this one...Airy breaks with their trademark melodies, I'm liking this one! Mike Ink - 'Polka Trax' Boring, boring, boring Sidney...When ever you look across a record and see that every fucking groove is the same as the last one, all the way across, watch out...Sorry but this one's for the dogs! Small Fish With Spine - 'I hate you remixes' this ones a bit spotty. Only one mix stood out, coldcut's 'view from a space pod/during'. The rest are filler... Reload - 'Amenity' Put on the one track side and wow, nice ambient stuff...then a house beat dropped in (eeek!) and I realized it was on the wrong speed and was way to housy for this fool. Flip side as some standard Reload/GC/Jedi sounding stuff, except is all straight beat...I just don't understand these guys...I want more Jedi Knights! AFX 'on' Reload mix = hell yes! Reload 'Amenity' = snooze button please Photek - 'Third Sequence/Titan' It's already been said...Photek, can I get an amen! (and not just the break ;-) V/A - 'Further Self Evident Truths 2' I rediscovered this cd at the bottom of my collection a week ago, and just found the wax yesterday. This comp has some great stuff on it. Top tracks for me are, well shit, their all good! Ruby - Paraffin (Wagon Christ Vocal mix) had me rolling on the floor. 'Old mans ass...' wonderful! Autechre - 'Keynell' I see Ae evolving towards a more simplistic state with their latest releases...Doesn't mean is not great, but I miss the complexity of bicycle, 444, eggshell and other oldies. Global Goon - 'Goon' Great fun for the whole (twisted) family! Nary a melody to be found, but interesting none the less. I'm not sure how long it'll take to wear thin, but I'm still liking it for now! Got a good laugh every time I heard the trusty old Juno arpeggio squelching! Oval - '94diskont' (not sure about title?!?) I haven't been buying as much ambient as I use to and always wondered what those oval guys were all about...This also has remixes by Scanner, Mouse on Mars, Christian Vogel and Jim o' Rourke. Nice minimal ambient...put some Edgar Allen Poe on top and trip out! VERY RELAXING stuff, can wait to listen to it again... X-mix - 'Electro Boogie - the tracks' Old school/new school...it's all good! a cross section of classic cuts including tracks by: UR, LFO, Sem, I-F, AUX 88, Hashim, Shiver and more. AFX dorks like me will love the I-F track title, 'I Do Because I Couldn't Care Less'! A must have for all electro lovers...Now, I'm actually looking (not very hard) to find the Dave Clark mix on CD. Lemon D - 'Going gets tough' Lemon D has joined my list, along with Photek, Source Direct, PFM, Nico and a few others, of jungle releases I snap up on sight. More good stuff. and Last but not least, Doctor Rockit - 'The music of sound' This is where things get REAL sketchy...What in the hell is up with Clear? Also what is up with Herbert? I'm getting real sick of people raving about his shit...Granted, some of it is ok (well, quite nice?). This LP does not sound very 'clearish' to me. Some of the tracks are straight beat! Overall, the album is very thin sounding and isn't 1/3 as listenable as GFQ, IMHO. Shit, I even gave all my 'phono' releases to a friend because they bore the hell out of me. Old mister Herbert needs to start making some FAT shit if he's going to get played around my house. Clear, we want more Gescom, Jedi Knights, Plaid, Bantha Trax! Well Kids, That's all the time I have for today, must run to work and make more money, to buy more records, to make more money, to buy more records, to ENJOY! peace out to all, brock np: Boards of Canada (again...)
