Would anyone care to take a stab at this? Ed Fitzgerald --------------------- Forwarded message: Subj: Name for music Date: 96-12-10 03:28:55 EST From: Unfutz To: Vee Head My dear friend: Thank you so much for introducing me to the wonderful new music that you listen to. I find it very interesting and worthwhile - and fun too! However, I have come across a number of designations which all seem to refer to one aspect or another of this music, and the multiplicity of names has me confused. Perhaps you, or the members of the mailing lists you say you subscribe to, can help explain to me: Acid Acid Ambient Acid House Acid Jazz Ambient Ambient Techno Ambient Jungle Atmospheric Bass Beats Breakbeat [House] Breaks Chicago [house?] Chill Out Dancehall Dark Ambient Darkside Darkside Hardstep Darkstep Darkwave Death Ambient Deep House Deep Space Detroit [house?] [techno?] Digi-funk Digital Hardcore Dolphin Drum & Bass Dub EBM Electro Electronica Ethereal Ethno-trance Ethnotechno Euro [techno] Experimental Funglen Gabber (Gabba) Garage Goa Trance Gothic Grindcore Happy Gabba Happy Hardcore [happy hard] Hardcore Hard Step Hardtrance hi-NRG Hip-Hop Hip-hop stylee House Hypermodern Digi-Jazz Illbient Industrial Intelligent Dance Music (IDM) Intelligent Drum'n'Bass Intelligent Jungle Isolationism Jazzy Jazzstep Jump-up Jungle Miami Bass Neo-gothic New Age Noise (Noize) Oldschool (Industrial) Phuture Phunk Post-Industrial Post-Punk Post-Rock Post-Techno Psychedelic Ragga Rare Grooves Rave Slambient Space Space Age Pop Synth Pop Techno Techstep Trance Tribal Trip Hop I thank you for whatever insights you can offer.

[*] there's enough hair-splitting going on already (`the wire', and the jungle/d'n'b thread). idm content: how does `macro dub infection 2' compare to the first one? i toyed for some time with the idea of buying it, but there's an awful lot of artists on there i've never heard of... -- richard [*] although `funglen' is obviously light-hearted pastoral music.

I've had it for about two weeks now, and I still haven't gotten through it. So far the first disc seems to outweigh the second, with a hammering Alec Empire track along with some sugar-sweet Laswell dub and a baby's bottom smooth Plug track... the rest I can't really say. Sounds errr nice... maybe a little too industrial for my tastes (remember, my roots are in electronic/metal industrial tunes) or just too noisy. One day I'll get back to it.
