ok, can someone please clarify this once and for all(Grant or someone else). Evidently Synaptic has gotten some info from the label(rephlex) + distributors that Global Goon = AFX. Furthermore, it seems like it sounds like RDJ(see below). I haven't heard it yet. But I thought Grant posted that Global Goon is not RDJ. I'd appreciate it if somone cleared this up. thanks for your time take care andy On Sat, 7 Dec 1996, Synaptic Records wrote:

I thought this album was disappointing. AFX or not, it's not as good as the RDJ album. I think it sounds somewhat like AFX but if I had to guess I'd say it *isn't* him. A little bit too amateurish. On Sat, 7 Dec 1996, Andy wrote:

Actually, I like Global Goon a lot. It's different from the RDJ album, but then his style varies a lot. It sounds a lot like the Mike & Rich album (and a few of his other side projects) and the singing sure sounds like the singing in the RDJ album. (Not one of his strong points, that voice, but it is pretty distinctive.) One other thing, this isn't an AFX album, it's a side project -- he often breaks out of his standard AFX effects -- this is a lot more like the stuff he's done with Mike Paradinas -- similar to the new Gary Moscheles stuff. Different from AFX, but I'll be really shocked if it turns out it's not RDJ. (Mike & Rich could probably also be called "amateurish," it's less hi tech, less highly processed --anyway, hope all you IDMers will give it a listen, I think it's an interesting progression in his work.)

hmm. Amateurish. Hate that. This album's cool. I really dig the melodies, and the singing is excellent. The comment about 'introducing someone to IDM' with it rings true on quite a few tracks, although St Martin would just freak people out (as it seems to have done a bit on the list.) And it definitely isn't RDJ. It's one of his housemates using his kit. I have this on reliable source, as well as it being posted on the list quite a few times. And it doesn't even sound like him. What with this and Gary and X-Asp (mu-ziq mix is wicked) and the Stereolab Wagon Christ thingy, I'm feeling pretty damn spoilt right now. Sure am glad I don't live in the States! keith duncan == unkind cheat kduncan@enterprise.net
