[rest snipped] Ok, i don't know Gescom, and i only have Autechre's Tri Repetae (?) so my experience with them may be very limited, but: a. Must Autechre be classified as IDM ? I hate this classifying of music into different genres, but i admit that it's nice to have at least some 'handle' on the style of music (one likes). W.r.t. this, i'd say that Autechre is more Ambient than IDM. Or is Ambient considered to be a part of IDM ? You see, there's no clear border between different genres... b. Does IDM, or dance in general, solely refer to the drum(/bass) in the music ? NO ! I know i can dance to music that doesn't have drum and bass in it at all. Although i love the drum and bass in music. About Tri Repetae, when i had bought it i regretted it the first time i listened to it. Now i'm very, very glad i have it ! IMHO it contains some of the finest rhythmic experiments with music i have ever heard... Even though the experimental aspect may be more present in the high tones than the drum/bass part. Maybe you should open your ears (and mind ?) a little wider, and you'll start to hear how intelligent a lot of this music really is... Have fun, Paul.

Paul, I suggest a little venture into the Rather Interesting world of Atom Heart if you really want to pry your ears and mind open with sample post contemporary IDM. --- Roy SeGuine Cyberspace Architect rseguine@clark.net *many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased* Dan12:4
