I am completely swept away by the new In The Nursery album "Deco."
It's not idm, of course. But I know a lot of people are into the
cross-over...
It is pretty typical of their style but they've refined it to a new
level. The sampled orchestra is so perfect it almost sounds real. In
fact, to the untrained ear, I'm sure people will think it's real. It
sometimes has the feel and sound of a Gorecki Symphony...
As always, the solo oboe and some of the drums are real. The usual
French female dialogue is present on a few tracks, which is just ok.
I can only take so much "Je suis triste..." But this is an ITN
trademark and, one you've accepted it, just fine. I do prefer the
purely instrumental tracks and there are plenty of them.
The thing about this cd that caught me by surprise is one track
"Mandra" has some electronics and a hip-hopish drum loop. Mixed with
the sampled orchestral instrumentation, real oboe mixed in: wow,
this is really unusual and a nice change from drums and bass.
For established ITN fans this cd is not only a must but an exciting
release. For those unfamiliar, if you're into dark, gothic, spacey
"orchestral" music this may be for you.
Bye for now...
