I was browsing through the 11/9/96 issue of New Musical Express in the periodicals section of my university's main library and would like to report that "Dead Cities" has entered the pop charts (the UK Top 40) at number 26! However, Phil Collins is still at # 9. Does this mean we drop them like a hot brick! Also, there was a review of Tricky's "Pre Millenium Tension" where the reviewer almost had an orgasm calling in the greatest album of the century - hmmm... must be good! Alec McKay

Perhaps Phil Collins should play on the next FSOL album, and get it over with then? As long as he doesn't sing.

I think the reviewer needs to listen to some Miles Davis, and then perhaps decrease the amount of sugar added to his/her breakfast cereal. I also wonder that the reviewer has not won any sort of Nobel Prize for the development of time travel, in order to judge all the records to be released in the next three years? Well, perhaps that brings us back to the issue of illicit substances, but I won't go there. Zenon M. Feszczak Ambientologist

If it matters to anyone, Phil Collins played on Eno's "Another Green World" and all the Genesis albums before they began to suck. I'm no fan of his recent output, but there was a time when he was in with the in crowd. --------------------------------------------------------------------- "Some stuff is obviously a lot more popular than other stuff" -- Tom Butcher Home Page, featuring Reagan on Black Velvet, the EMP Compilation CD, samples of my music, etc http://soli.inav.net/~kent/ Kent Williams kent@inav.net CADSI 2651 Crosspark Road Coralville IA 52241 (319) 338 6053 (home) (319) 626 6700 x 219 (work) (319) 626 3489 (fax)

Not only that, but it was Peter Gabriel who taught Phil Collins the production techniques to get the signature Phil Collins gated reverbed etc. drum sound. Oh, around the time of Peter Gabriel's 3rd self-titled record. Wherein one can hear said cannon-like drum sound to full effect (especially in "Intruder"). Still fair to say - he's an exceptionally talented drummer. It's a crime that for the most part he's wasting that talent now on trivial music. Does he at least do any interesting session drumming? 3 on now: V/A: Ambient Way to Dub

Hmmmm . . . from what I've read in several other publications, all I can say is that this reviewer must have been Faking It ;) alan/beyondthebristolsound
