<groan> is there some kind of stipulation that, to play at glitch/schizm, you're not allowed to play any of your /proper/ tracks? 'live acid set' sounds too much like 'twist the 303, bang the 808, do a bit of mc-ing (for a cheap laugh), play some hardcore records, get pissed on free beer' - very easy money. and the sound system's rubbish - why bother? a cracking way to promote the new album. <waves> Subconscious Geography http://www.sub-con-geo.demon.co.uk +/sale +/cdr

Schizm at The Park, October 3 The usual DJs beforehand, perhaps lacking a bit of variety this time. Tom started behind one of those cloth screens but as he got going Steve Beckett ripped it down so we could see him, torch in mouth, frantically fading and tweaking. The first one had some super funky drum programming, reminiscent of Vibert in the Sunset Boulevard era but magnified 15 times and stretched through the Jenkinson filter. Next a more prominent acid line but none of your bankrupt Hardfloor-type nonsense. In fact, the whole set was in the Squarepusher genre. Sadly, one of the 303s developed sync problems which meant a ten minute intermission of records whilst he struggled with that old Roland technology (gear also included a 909, 550/660 and MS20). So pleased when he returned (occasionally he had to do stop-starts to resynchronise). The main part of the set from then on was a fantastic acidic/breakbeat journey. He even played a live version of the Ceephax remix and ended with a tune which in the words of an ex-IDM member was like Underground Resistance but better. Sorry for the inarticulate review - I was too busy dancing to compose my thoughts at the time. One of my co-attendees said that she'd never seen me dance so much (comment altered). adam
