my suspicions that this would be an intense
night were confirmed immediately. my friends and i were pounded
with sound on entering the small, dark venue of the manchester roadhouse.
a large crowd packed in to see the autechre performance yet all were
impressed with the sounds from the djs. extreme aphex style noise
interspersed with amazing jungle and techno sound. shrieks of pure noise
but always pounding bass rythyms. there seemed to be a period of drum and
bass and the only recognisable track of the night by photek emerged and
then dissapeared.
at 2am, after four mind melting hours of head pounding sounds the dj faded
his
record into the first track performed live. the autechre duo
of booth and brown continued the theme, if slightly more subdued.
all the tracks were extremely danceable and all original. material for
the new album perhaps.?
the smoke machine operator went mad and filled the whole place out with
smoke but it only added to the effect. i couldnt see anything except the
girl dancing in front of me and the slight bobing of heads on stage.
at 3am i couldnt handle any more and had to leave but im sure the night
went on beyong the 4am advertised.
mmmm. great stuff.
