No disrespect to Ken's music but I never saw him give anything to this list, except insults for Plaid and people who don't like his album. Does he really expect a list of 1000+ electronic music fans to all love his record, and for them all to dislike Plaid? Andrew C.

I'll have to agree with Andrew on this one... Going to the extent that Ken did, posting childish and insulting public messages, just because Aaron said he didn't love the new BDP album to pieces, is lame. So is saying 'see ya' to try to make us feel like jerks. Well it's not going to work. Everyone has their own opinion...I appreciate the fact that Aaron and others post theirs...that's what a list like this one is all about...relaying information. To slag someone for liking/not liking something is silly. Especially by the artist. Sure, Ken put lot's of effort into his music and I'm sure he'd much rather hear it praised, but there's always going to be someone out there who's taste it just doesn't suit. The thing I like about this list is that it's a very 'intelligent' list. By that, I mean people on this list usually only say something when they have something intelligent to say. I've come to identify with other list members with very similar tastes as my own. I often use their comments as a starting point when looking for music, both new and old. If everyone is afraid to say they dislike 'x,y,or z' what's the point of this list anyway? A bit of irony: Andrew said '...I never saw him give anything to this list...' I know that there were people who posted messages saying 'yeah, I love it...' Did anyone ever receive any feedback from the above artist? I doubt, judging from the attitude displayed in his three previous posts. I've always been surprised how many artist have e-mailed me back saying they were glad I liked their music. That's cool. Making a public comment attacking someone is not cool. Bagging on other artist is also not cool. Let's all try to be 'cool' like Fonzi (or is that Gonzi?!?) 'nuff said for now, brock Ps: "Your tongue's so far up their crack, it's embarrassing." You Brits are sick, here in the US, we only stick our nose's up people's 'arse'. ;-)

On the whole subject of this Ken thing, let me say that I have spoken to him a bunch of times through e-mail and he's always been a really nice guy. You can't fault him for taking criticism of his music personally. I think it's a loss to the list regardless of how other people may have felt about his postings. Remember 93? Back in the day? It was Polygon Window, Autechre, and The Black Dog...thougher than leather. Think this whole thing could have been handled a bit better. I've always thought that the only way this "celeb"/punter thing is going to work on mailing lists is if the artists go into it with a fairly thick skin. Putting your name behind a posting always carries a certain degree of commitment and risk, and if people start self-censoring because they're afraid of hurting a musician (or label owner/rep)'s feeling then I think we've lost something. -d.w. send me live objects
