normally i don't get too excited about major label mix CDs but i just got this new one which is pretty awesome... "ACID RESISTANT II" (smile sm8028-2) mixed by DJ DB. it's all the cologne school of stuff (air liquide, mike ink, etc...). i like it because it's not all straight up 4-on-the-floor 909 beats. in fact, it starts out with some wicked slow crushing distorted hip hop loops, speeds up a bit into some nice funky electroesque stuff, eventually gets into the harder pound pound pound stuff (yawn) and goes back to weirdness at the end. mixing is nice and unobtrusive. artwork is incredibly garish (flourescent yellow jewel box). pick it up if you see it for cheap, it's pretty cool. -- Jon Drukman / jsd@cyborganic.com

I too ran across this this weekend and snagged it on site. I quite liked the first Acid Resistant comp, even with the regularity of it all. There was enough melody and variety on it to keep me interested, and it wasn't as biting as some of the more trashy pure-acid type tracks can get. This comp is a stark contrast to the first one though. I've only had one listen through, but I would say it's definitely more IDM-ish than the first, containing much more variety in terms of beats, and much more creative use of the beast machine. (aka, the loveable 303).

Found it for $12.99 at a Media Play. I always find something cool in that store. -- guyjr@cc.gatech.edu | I.D.M.- That stage in sleeping when your feet are a.k.a., Guy Elden Jr. | moving faster than your eyes.
