consequences. Honest, I wouldn't joke about something this serious.
It is about a very highly intelligent virus that is being spread worldwide
called "Gabba Times".

SUBJECT: [Very Important !!! ]
There is a music virus that is being sent across the Internet. If
you receive an email message with the subject line "The Gabba Virus", DO NOT
read the message, DELETE it immediately, do not RESEND it and immidiately
backup your MIDI files, CD's (both Audio & ROM) and take casts of all your
precious vinyl.
Please read the messages below.
Some miscreant is sending email under the title "The Gabba Virus"
worldwide, if you get anything like this, DON'T DOWN LOAD THE FILE! It
has a virus that rewrites your hard drive, obliterating all SMF, MID, RA,
WAV, in fact *any* audio related file, replacing them with a Gabba Mix
version.
Not only that but if you store your CD's within the same room as your
harddrive the virus will emit a special magnetic field, which will
compress the data on your Audio CD's causing them to play back at anything
up to twice the normal bpm. Worse still, if your CD's have not been mastered
using a special 'Anti-Quantize Tampering' technique, recently developed in
the US to guard against such viruses, you will find that the CD plays back to
a viciousley quantised banging gabba rhythm. Even jungle!! Or Enya!! Remember,
CD's contain only 1's and 0's. By altering the spacings between these it is
quite a simple task for the virus to alter the rhythm of a track.
Even vinyl is not safe. By downloading "The Gabba Virus" an electrical pulse
transmitted through the household mains will manifest itself in the stylus of
record deck causing irreversable damage to your favourite platters, next time
you put one on.
Unfortunately, most novice computer users will not realize what is
happening until it is far too late. Luckily, there is one sure means of
detecting what is now also known as the "Gabba Times" virus. It always
travels to new computers the same way in a text email message with the subject
line reading "The Gabba Virus". Avoiding infection is easy once the file has
been received simply by NOT READING IT! The act of loading the file into
the mail server's ASCII buffer causes the "Gabba Times" mainline program
to initialize and execute.
The program is highly intelligent- it will send copies of itself to
everyone whose email address is contained in a receive-mail file. It can
search all your HTML files for any reference to music or links to music sites
and transmit itself too all email addresses listed within these files.
It will then proceed to trash all music of the unlucky recipient.
The bottom line is: - if you receive a file with the subject line "The Gabba
Virus", delete it immediately! Do not read it! Rest assured that
whoevers' name was on the "From" line was surely struck by the virus and will
die a horrible amphetamine/poppers overdose death.
Warn your friends and local sound system users of this newest threat to the
Music World! It could save them a lot of pain and anguish.

Oh, also if you receive a file called GABBAZIP300 be equally aware. This is
merely a ZIP file version of the virus, cleverlry and cunninly renamed.
Please be careful and forward this mail to any muso you care about.
REPEAT: DO NOT DOWNLOAD ANY FILE NAMED GABBAZIP300 REGARDLESS OF THE
EXTENSION AND DO NOT READ ANY MAIL WITH THE SUBJECT "The Gabba Virus"
Oh and PS. Gabba fans - Beware the Ambient virus!! It's just like the Gabba
one but it will convert everything into an Orb stylee remix.
