(idm) Turntable Recommendations?

Could someone give me some advice on buying a turntable? I'm in bad need of one. I'm looking for something quality for home use, just listening, nothing fancy. I can spend about $250 if really needed. I've used my friend's Technics SL-B22 (which I could get at Best Buy for $150) & it seemed really nice, everything I need but I'm wondering if there's anything at a comparable price or if maybe spending a little more will get me something of a higher quality. Any help appreciated... Anthony

Any help appreciated... My advice would be to check out the pawnshops in your area. You'll most likely find several excellent turntables for negligible amounts of money. I've purchased two _nice_ tables (in near-mint condition) in the last year (for $25 and $50 respectively) that listed for 5 (or more) times that amount new. Just think about all the consumers who cashed in their turntables when the record companies told them that vinyl was dead -- the fruit of that marketing effort is in the pawnshops. You may need to spend a few extra bucks on a new cartridge, but you'll still come out smelling like roses. Spend the money you'll save on some nice new releases. :) -d.w. on last: some wacked out Gigi Galaxy diva-tracks: phhhbbbbbt!
