Good God there is a revolution about to happen. The Indian classical percussion traidtion has been involved with inhumanly fast breakbeats for centuries. Listen closely to the sound of the Baya (the larger of the two tabla drums) for the wickedest bass sound imaginable. A good solo tabla player rivals the most kickin D&B break for sheer complexity, sonic range and temporal displacements. Check Talvin SInghs solo CD 'Drum n Space' as well as anything by Zakir Hussain. BTW Talvin toured Australia with Massive Attack as well. -- Simon McGuire <expsrm@cascade.santos.com.au> May you live in interesting times

Hey, I saw an indian percussionist play before massive attack here in LA. Was it Talvin Singh? Huh...it's been awhile now and I had no idea who he was then. He opened up for them then stayed and played percussion on a bunch of their songs. I do remember not being too impressed with his set though, which sounded a bit too ethnic-new agey to me. Lots of washed out synths and standard dance-lite beats. Like a cd you buy at the nature company. I wonder if it was really him... _____ / ,-,_) /,_) (/ RESH Live & Direct from the G-Spot, Orange County, California, USA
