Hey all, Just got back from playing at the Ambient Lounge. A pretty wacky night. As the subject line says, Squarepusher got me busted once again! The last time I played there, a mean french waiter came up and told me to take that 'fucked up music' off, he said that it was 'much too crazy for the people who were trying to eat (at 1:00am?). I was playing 'Children Talking' off HAB 1, in honor of the GREAT mashpotatos I had for dinner there. So I just told him to eat shit and proceeded just scratch 'mashhhhhhhhh potatoooooooooooo' over and over. Didn't think they'd ever ask me back...but they did, four months later. The same thing happened twice tonight...once to Squarepusher and once to plug. Different french waiters, same shitty attitude. The funny thing is that 6 people came up to me as I was spinning and asked if I could write down the names of the stuff I had played. One guy was from Mexico City, one from Germany, another from Holland (who said he worked with moby on his new album, yahoo!) and a bunch of local people. They all loved the stuff I was playing. Guess what it was? You all know exactly what it was! IDM! Funny thing #2 is that the owner, a funky french feller named John Louie caught me as I was lugging my case down the street and said I played the best music he'd ever heard and, wants me to play every Saturday. So anyone out there in the Los Angeles area, please come on down, hang out and listen to some music with me. The place is unfortunatly 21 and over, drinks are too expensive and on saturday nights, full of snobby, upwardly mobile people who generally suck. But it's free to get in and everyone's welcome to hid out in the dj booth with me and have a smoke;-) Together we can take the place back... The Ambient Lounge @ Louis XIV. In Hollywood - 606. Nice to see that place being put to good use again. The trendy Eurotrash crowd that usually hangs out there needs a good scare every once in a while. Saturday nights, huh? I do think I'll cruise by. Jean-Louis, for all his snotty attitude, has good ears, and his word is law, so don't mind the dumb-ass French people who'd prefer to listen to "Children" over and over all night long... Hope to see you there! -Phil [----------] [---] [-----] [-----] [-----] [----------] [---] [---] [---] [---] [---] [---] [---] [---] [---] [---] [---] [---] [---] [---] [---] [---] [----------] [----------] [---] [---] [----------] [----------] [---] [---] [---] [---] [---] [---] [---] [---] [---] [---] [---] [--------] [-----] [-----] [---] [-----] [----------] Home is where the stereo is!
