Hi, I have the opportunity to buy Aphex Twin's SAW II (the limited brown vinyl version on WARP) at a nifty price. However, I already have the 2cd version (missing one track of course). I wanted to know if the brown vinyl version is very limited (how many copies) and if it is at all valuable (as a collector's thing). Thanks, dv8

speaking of Aphex Twin SAWII: less then 30 seconds after I finished sending that last post, my girlfriend walked in and threw a copy of Aphex Twin "Words & Music" at me...she said she found it yesterday in a local bookstore for $.25! does anyone know the scoop with this CD? Now I've got 3 copies and none of them have a front cover booklet. It sez "Promotion Only" and I found one in a thrift store, one in a pawnshop and the other in a bookstore...but never in a record store. wierd isn't it? I wonder if they sent these promos out to all of the Newage / EZ listening stations and they said "whoh, look at that scary guy on the CD, we can't play something like that" and then threw them out with their old clothes, toasters and shit. oh well, I like it! word to the mothership, brock np: "Flying High" - The Irresistible Force (still)

They didn't come with a front cover booklet. It's a US promo-only interview disc... some tracks off of SAWII, very short interview bits with RDJ, snippets of live performances, and an *exclusive* track (if you want to call it that - but then again, why the hell not?). I would imagine that they were sent to all of the undeserving record shops, radio stations, and periodicals throughout the US in an attempt to actually be listened to. Instead, they just ended up as lunch money [trade fodder] for those who got them in the first place. Liberate the promos I say! cisum. .`-). @@ -' christopher miller o.' evil@digital.net ' on: "Interactive Music" by INTERACTIVE MUSIC (aka Atom Heart).

What snippets are from live performances? And about the exclusive track--do you mean the excerpt from Universal Indicator Red? Andrew

At the end of each (and sometimes during - in the background) of the spoken interview tracks, there are indeed outtakes of live performances.

What excerpt from UI red? What track is that? I was referring to the "Words (processed)" track. Spooky-creepy. werdna. .`-). @@ -' christopher miller o.' evil@digital.net '

No live tracks. Erm, let me pull out my copy, and sort things out...here are the tracks being played in the background while Richard is talking... track 1. words 0:27 On (Aphex remix, the chopped up crunchy one) (possibly track 7 from AB3) track 3. words 0:33 (no clue, probably a Caustic Window track) d-scape (from pt.1 of UK On single, not US) track 5. words 0:47 Tamphex (I found it on Aphex Twin's "Classics" album) track 7. words 0:22 d-scape (melody bit, no beats) In regards to the last track (words "processed") it's exactly as it sounds. There's no music, melody, anything really. Just his voice being feed through a distortion grid, and the result is a sort of high pitched squawk for 5 minutes. Dull, but kinda cute at the same time. The music from the beginning of track 3, all the way through until the very end when it switches to the first few seconds of "D-scape."

Upon a recent listen (just now), I still tend to doubt this. It always sounded like studio tracks to me. Unless the tracks live sound so similar that it's impossible to tell the difference. Track 1: On (d-scape mix) switches to 73-yips track 3 (see above) Track 5: Tamphex (hedphuq mix) Track 7: D-scape Track 8: A fraction of a second of On (d-scape mix) Andrew

Ok ok. I pulled out my UI red and compared... yeah you're right, but I couldn't tell which part of UI red it was though (all of the tracks are hard to distinguish from one another sometimes). So why is this on the "Words & Music" disc anyway? Is someone trying to tell us something? iu. .`-). @@ -' christopher miller o.' evil@digital.net ' on: `red' - UNIVERSAL INDICATOR (aka Mikey Dread?)

Don't suppose you'd like to part with one of your three copies. While we're at it, somebody please find me that damned Emperion Meat Beat remix. Spliff
