A more qualified Plaidhead can probably be of more help, but as far as I know it was a 12-inch they released about three or four years ago -- possibly from their first (ultra rare) album. It's not the best Plaid, merely a cheesey techno/house track in the style of FSOL's Yage stuff. Collectable only by Plaid/Black Dog fans, but anyone else can check it out on GPR's Digital Millennium compilation. /\/)ark http://www.sonance.demon.co.uk/

i don't know what version is on digital millenium, but the last way i'd describe scoobs is cheesy techno house! the three tracks range from total latin hip-hop funk floorfiller to carl craig style break-driven 4/4.. djs of all styles kill to get this record. james lavelle said this was his favourite black dog record - i think it's one of the best. <waves> Subconscious Geography http://www.sub-con-geo.demon.co.uk +/sale +/cdr

Eh?!? Not at all. A classic. Heard it played out the other weekend at some jazzy house club - proper IDM in the sense that it makes you want to dance like an idiot. And its smooth and funky to nod to at home.

Its not strange at all. I won't listen to any 4/4 stuff that thunders along at about 200BPM although I'm sure there are (somewhere...) some gabber tracks that might border on the innovative or intelligent. The Bjork vocal debate is different - its not whether vocals are 'good' or not in IDM, its whether people like her very distinctive voice or not. Horses for courses innit. And again:

What master plan is this? Warp release the music they like (and, of course, are keen to see each record they sell do well). End of story. They didn't like it. They didn't release it.

Yup. I love _Not for Threes_ but it is over-produced and ultra-squeaky clean, at times to the detriment of the music. Still a great album though IMHO. || [CiM] || cim_@hotmail.com || - ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com

I'd extend this to stuff by Orbital - just a bit too Gary Lineker. Nick

Oh terriffic ! this should go in the FAQ as the true identity of IDM. And what is EBM? Somebody today classified his musical direction as such - clarifying my quizzical look with "Electro Body Music". Is that poles apart from IDM? And who was polling / compiling whether we do or don't dance? Any answers available yet? Or do you all have lead legs? I *
