An absolute must buy is Squarepusher's "Feed Me Weird Things" on Rephlex. It's brilliant from start to finish, and it's longer than 30 minutes. Also, Spring Heel Jack's new album, "68 Million Shades" is rich is melody, and razor cut beats. I'm very disappointed with the new "Platinum Breakz" comp on FFRR, so i'd stay away from that. Otherwise, check out Plug's new album, "Drum'n Bass for Papa." I think Squarepusher is your best bet, and as Aaron mentioned, the newest Spring Heel Jack is pretty good. I'm not sure what you mean by "intellijungle"... but, I've only hearda little Photek which had many semi-annoying woman vocals/chorus, thus for me, I wouldn't classify Photek as "intellijungle". I guess it depends what mood you are in :) No question about it, from what I've heard, Photek are quite good, but not dark and brooding/melodic that I associate with idm.. andy On Sun, 8 Sep 1996, Eric Gordon wrote:

is this the track with the mad breakdown into jazz? (i know a lot of these exist; i'm wondering if this track is one of them) i heard a track on the radio the other day, i called the dj and he said he thought it was this, but it was on a mixtape so he wasn't sure. if so, it's about the best jungle track i've ever heard. matt

A lot of people seem to be unhappy with the Metalheadz 'Platinum Breaks' release - is it just that the tracks are old, or are they uninteresting? Some other releases to consider: Photek - "Hidden Camera" (Science) Plug 1+2 double pack (Blue Angel) V/A - "The Revolutionary Generation" (Moving Shadow) Luger - "Luger" (Leaf) Anything by Dillinja GD

An amazing 12" that will appeal to fans of melody driven drum'n bass, or to Front 242 fans (who will recognize the not-so-subtle sampling) and James Bond fans. The kicker of this track is the gloomy soundtrack from Moonraker. It works well, and makes A-side track worth the price alone. Apparently the Witchman 12" and the Boymerang 12" on Leaf are also exceptional drum'n bass releases. They should be arriving by post tomorrow, so I'll let you know how they are. Try Flynn & Flora, _Native Drums_ The albumn may not be so "Intelligent". But none of the songs are going to be featured on the _Nuclear Jungle Warfare IV_ compilation. The first two tracks "You are Sleeping" and "Revolution" are nice and trippy. And the albumn itself features good breaks. Have you listened the Plug full-length yet? Storm From the East on Moving Shadow Records. Great jazzy d'n'b. Lots of vibes, and some great basslines. Groovy from start to finish. pd

"T-Raenon" is probably the least Photek of all the Photek singles. Try "U.F.O.", "Seven Samurai" and "The Physical", all on his own Photek label. Other recommended records: - d'n'b - Source Direct - Snake Style (Source Direct) Source Direct - The Crane (Source Direct) Source Direct - Stonekiller (Metalheadz) Mirage - Feel My Dreams (Mirage) B.L.I.M. - Their Culture (E-Motif) Dom & Roland - [forgot the titles, two recent 12"'s on Moving Shadow] - hardstep - Uncharted Territory - Space Invaded (Penny Black) Twisted Anger - Twisted Anger (Penny Black) Ed Rush - Subway (Prototype) Ed Rush - Mothership (No U-Turn) Ed Rush, DJ Trace & Nico - Mad Different Method (No U-Turn) Nico - Fierce (No U-Turn) various - Tech Steppin' (E-Motif) - IDM correct - Squarepusher - Feed Me Weird Things (Rephlex) Wafta - College Street Zoo (Spy Mania) the flip-side of the Mr Plane EP by Scanner's Snappy Sid side-project. All on 12" only, except the Tech Steppin' compilation and Squarepusher album, which are both out on CD. Maarten

Nope. It's not the least bit jazzy. It's got a chunk of sampled Aphex Twin from SAW II at the beginning and somewhere in the middle, a lot of filter abuse and some creepy sounds, but no jazz bits (nor does the flip side, by the way).

Well, it's still pretty good. Maarten
