Upon listening to his full length release, "Songs of a Dead Dreamer", you
will fully understand the position of musical expenditure that Dj Spooky
tha subliminal kid is capable of. To put it bluntly, I fucking love this
album. I listened to it for the first time in my car on a lengthy ride up
north. When song 4 kicked in, and then the transition ensued to the
string groove, I was in full on rockin' mode. Right then and there I knew
this album was for me. Between songs, you will find what the Black Dog
call "bolt(s)", and what the Future Sound of London rely on to keep their
more abstract listeners focussed. The influence is clear -- which is
brilliant in my opinion. Spooky incorporates these abstract meanderings
into full on grooves; this album is a journey in every sense of the word.
I suggest you undertake his journey in both senses of the word; the
album(which is available to everyone) and more exclusively, the live show
which you have the opportunity to attend. You will not be disappointed
with either choice.
just some thoughts....
