no disrespect to peter, but...... IMHO it is important that we tell mtv to fuck off. Call them and tell them what you DONT like. Tell them that they are full of shit, Tell them that you do not want to be part of their world. Like Peter said " If the underground doesn't support this....." watching cable tv instead of making music or listening to music is a bad idea. Period. the cutting edge is soon dulled with over use collinstrange? strange? records 445 e. 9th. ny.ny.10009 212.505.3025

Can we end this thread now? I am really new to the list and I hate to be the one to say it but this avant vs popular debate is old hat. It has not been resolved throughout the history of art criticism and it will not be resolved here. After Pop-Art and Postmodernity we should be beyond this discussion-old story, new set. If people want to watch IDM on MTV, they can; if they don't want to, they don't have to. Choices are great, aren't they? This IS NOT a major political issue. Or new territory in cultural development. Steve Grant ******************************************************************************* "We explored the idea that we didn't want to control the circuits. Whereas everyone nowadays is obsessed with control-just the opposite of our approach." Bebe Barron

I think I can end this once and for all (yeah, right. Who am I kidding?). Anyway, my dig is this: Everyone bitches how these artists never get any airplay. Now they will. Everyone bitches about how albums never go domestic. Now they may. Everyone bitches about never actually getting to see these videos. Now they can. My only worry is that, at the next concert, I'll be sitting 300+feet away, wondering whether those specks on the stage are actually members of the band. If you don't agree with me, you're all stupid (whoa, wait a minute, I was kidding). Spliff.

Any 'spotter worth their notepad would be at the front of the ticket line (like I was for my 14th row seat for KISS last night). eric

Nah. Once it starts getting into arena and stadiums things it's either not worth it or it's crap. The sound is often awful because of the size of the arena (or if it's in an outside stadium it's even worse). Besides once a band gets to the stage where they are big enough to headline arenas and stadiums on their own, their music has usually turned to crap anyway (with very few exceptions). T.
