I can't say there's anything "intelligent" about Electronic, but I figure everyone on IDM was a New Order fan at some time or another, so maybe it's obliquely pertinent. Is it just me, or is the new Electronic album the worst piece of shite ever to come from such hallowed names as Mr. Sumner and Mr. Marr? Or is that honor reserved for New Order's "Republic" (which I never even bothered to give a listen because the singles were so bad). What parts of it are electronic, rather than electric, sound rather cliched. What input Mr. Bartos had, I can't hear. Mr. Tennant is sorely missed. I just needed to get that off my chest. Che

Well I know they sort of layed an egg but it isn't AWFUL. I like Forbidden City and the first couple of songs until the old crappy house tunes with too many wailing diva backing vocals kick in. There is that incredible song though about Barney growing up in the hood in Manchester. Probably the best lyrics he's written in ten years. And fuck Neil Tennant, he was awful on the first album. Nobody wants to hear his crappy ass sing, Barney should've done all the songs on his own. Yeah, the new Electronic is basically ear candy. I must admit to liking some of it, but most of the structures and melodies are pretty simplistic. Bernard's voice becomes irritating at times also, and I sometimes wonder if Marr even showed up. Tim

I (unwillingly) heard most of this record in the car because the numbskull at the college station put it on and went to lunch or something. It was OK, but the fooking Macarena song is more IDM than this ... --------------------------------------------------------------------- Other people are NOT merely the comfy pillows on the couch of your life. No, Gonzi, you are. And, regrettably, so am I. For god's sake boy, it does you no good to be able to tell when you're off-topic if you ignore your own best judgement. Electronic is *not* IDM, by any remote stretch of the word. (Yes, I've heard the album in question, and yes, I have an opinion, and yes, I'm gonna keep it to myself. But not everyone on this group likes New Order.) How do we define IDM, boys and girls? IDM has come to mean "the cool stuff I've got on now", whatever that might be. If I like it, it must be IDM, right? Please, let's try to stay remotely on topic. (That goes for you too, Zenon. I'm tired of having to swim through your stream-of- consciousness postings.) And, before you ask, yes, I am holier than thou, and, no, my shit don't stink.
