in an attempt to practice what i preach... motorbass "pansoul" (?) 2x12" music philippe zdar et etienne de crecy a ezio flying fingers b les ondes neptune c wan dence genius d pariscyde bad vibes (d.mix) this is the works of at least one of the members of mo wax's la funk mob, doing a more housier project than previously hinted towards. most tracks do carry that signature la funk mob sound, very thumpy with elements of swing, distorted, grainy samples, and thick bass. most beats start with a 4/floor routine, and then sneak a bit of a subtle break over the top. it is fun to dance to, it spices up any house set with nary a dog on the set. pariscyde is the most boisterous of the bunch, but not enough to scare anyone off the floor. it ain't groundbreaking, but you could do a lot worse. could this just be part of my problem with the monotony of house? fans of la funk mob will not be disapointed... naked funk "valium" (pussyfoot) 1 dreamland 7 abduction 2 don't touch duane barry 8 you have captured my liver 3 valium 9 pearl of compasssion 4 tressa lux 10 alien groove sensation 5 billy 11 earthquake 6 what's that spell 12 the eagle has landed "to comply with govenment restrictions, tracks 2, 7, 10, and 11 have been withdrawn for your safety- they are only available on cd format- pussy cdlp003" ...thanks guys. feeling slightly duped that 25% of the tracks labeled are missing from the vinyl version, i approached this with a bad feeling about it...but the truth is , that that's there is quite good. this is fun funk, inna well produced pussyfoot style. many of these tracks, while syncopated and sequenced, do manage to jam pretty hard. fat ol broken analog keyboard midtempo hiphop flavored jams decorate this album, the beats are headnodders. plenty of "weird ufo and other paranormal" samples. jeremy shaw (half of naked funk) is in about four other pussyfoot bands, and i like his style, he can jam a funk guitar and make it sound legit. again, nothing groundbreaking, but fun none the less. for those of you, who, like myself, were onetime house fans who grew tired of the formula and plain ol' flooding of the market with cookiecutter tracks, may i suggest looking into a newer label (supposedly derrick carter's new favorite): paper music. paper is up to four releases, the newest of the bunch being the waste paper ep. my favorites are the "paper music issue one" (paper 002), a mature, disco-influenced jam totally ignorant of the larger trends of the day (and a great fender rhodes solo), and salt city orchestra's "the book", a slammer of a tune, with an ominous vaderlike vocal intro that breaks into unobtrusive male vocals (normally a pet peeve of mine) and a "throw" style bassline. production on paper releases is top notch, way beyond most house records... crisp, clean and gigantic. you may want to look into this, folks. and as a last question, can anyone decipher when the new andrea parker is due? i asked about a month ago after seeing something on mumbojumbo's playlist..."attacking giant"? is this one i just plain ol' missed? on now feedback "i'm for real" cameron ===================================== cameron bowden cameron@imagina.com blacksmith on the anvil in your ear _____________________________________

Nice call , paper is run by Hard Times residents Miles Holloway and Elliot Eastwick , also check out the Idjit Boys stuff on U-Star ,Basement Jaxx label (think all Ep's are by Basement Jaxx) , Octopus (especially KCL Project) , Black on Black (Bob Jones imprint , released stunning "Missed Beats" compilation - pick this up) , Honeydipped (live organic/ house/funk/plain weirdness) , Secret Ingrediants releases on Evolution , American Tropique (Glasgow run deep sounds) for a fresh 90's take on the (Nu-Soul cYogi Haughton) house groove from the UK , plus the UK various artists ep on Chicago's Guidance label (who put out my top record of the year -Project Pkm EP). s.m.@4th world records on now - mr fingers - "Above the Clouds"
