While i'm not able to answer the question, i have to profess that "Fish" is one hell of a song. I can't believe that i didn't hear/see more hype for the single, (ZEN CDS 62) worth admission price for that track alone. Looking forward to tha album. Been in a very Ninja Tune Mood today, pulled out Funki Porcini's "Let See What Camen Can Do" and Animals on Wheels' "Cooked". I don't remember them sounding this good. Makes me think that Ninja Tune is the forgotten drum'n'bass label. Re Funki Porcini: is any album generally recommended (i didn't care a day ago when the thread came up, i do today), or is it a more a MMV thing? Re Animals on Wheels: Are their albums as good as this single? _________________________________ Adam Roesch / roesch@augsburg.edu Augsburg College / Minneapolis / MN / USA http://dogbert.augsburg.edu/~roesch/ Newly reworked Fila Brazillia/Pork Recordings site http://dogbert.augsburg.edu/~roesch/pork/ "The only disease we need in our blood is love" TRICKY

I've just acquired The Ultimately Empty... and this is really good. Been enjoying it with the volume up loud.

The only 'album' released by Mr.Scruff, is really a collection of the 12" on Rob's Records/Pleasure, plus one or two new tracks. The album is self titled and came out about 2/3 years ago on the Pleasure label. There is a new single comming on Ninja Tune, I have seen a few promos about so it should be due for release soon.

i would say yes. if you're looking for freaked out drum n bass, look into his album "love, pussycats & carwrecks", which was out around the time "carmen" came out. the beats are quite disjointed & quite teasing throughout the disc. the other 2 albums are more mellow (although quite great).

"designs & mistakes" is my favorite drill n bass album of all times, whatever that could mean. (then again, u-ziq & squarepusher never really meant much to me.) lots of groovy piano/keyboard samples, frantic beats that get more screwed up as the album goes (the insane "eggshell" alone is worth the pricetag) as well as more straightforward but highly chilled breaks, instantly catchy tunes -- i would even say it ranks up there in my ninja top 3 (the other 2 being mr. tobin's bricolage & mr. porcini's hed phone sex, but what do i know!). & now that you mention "cooked", i think i'll just go hunt it down (i've seen it used! hah!) because it's probably excellent. as for ninja tune being the forgotten drum n bass label... they tried, but their d+b has always been quite non-standard (which is good but not very popular) & for some reason they've never gotten the press they deserve. -- david turgeon at http://www.notype.com
