There comes a time when some artists go too far, and in the eyes
of cEvin Key, (ex-member of Skinny Puppy, and founder of the eclectic
electronic ensemble Download) excess is part of the music. Joined by
Mark Spyby, DJ Philth and Genesis P. Orridge, the group has collectively
recorded the most complex, unusual brainrape of a recording, with enough
sonic distortion and harnessed noise to overthrow the planet. Both the
album and ep (sidewinder) are lengthy dark exercises in mutating techno
beats, breaks and sequenced mayhem. Whoever said techno was "wimpy" is
probably hiding right now in a soundproof room, because Download won't
go away.
