Hey all I just heard a CD by SLAM it is called HEADSTATES and I was wondering why no one else has mentioned this great CD lately, if it has been mentioned, woops, sorry. THere is also a SLAM ep that i saw but did NOT listen to, so if you know anything about it, please share with me. THE HEADSTATES CD is one of those CDs that has every sort of flava for each track, sorta like the last LIONROCK CD, no SLAM is not anything like LIONROCK, I only mention LR because they too have alot of variety on thier latest CD (the title has the word INSTINCT and INvestigation? I think). anyway, If you need a fresh new sound give SLAM a try, sorry this is a useless review, i suck at giving reviews, I just know what I like. later, gil PS ANYONE know the title to the SENUREAL CD, the second one? Headstates is alright. I dunno, I was a bit disappointed. Slam always seems to come up with 2-3 completely great songs on an album but leave the rest of the album to just being mediocre. With the previous album "snapshots" for example, there was "Groovelock" "Spirit" and a couple of others that were great. The rest were just blah imo. Same with headstates, except the blah tracks are really blah, and there aren't any stand-out great works like they've done in the past. I can't be all negative to it though, if I had the album next to me I'd list off the 3 songs I do like on it. I just think they'd be better off trimming the fat and releasing EPs. ahem. I have to give my 02 cents here -- "Headstates" by slam is one of my favourite full lengths as of late-- and here's why: FIRST BASS HYBRID these tracks are phenomenal(sp?). First Bass is one of those tracks that instantly says to you "this is why Slam is the bomb!" Who'd expect Slam to come out and hit ya with a downbeat monster such as this; while incorporating jazz so well in the same song? Reminiscent of the jazz bit in the Elecktroids track "Mystery World." Hybrid is a wonderful journey through the world of D&B, on a Jacobs Optical Stairway tip. More ambient influence in this song, and it is a real piece of magic -- just listen to the flange and treble/bass balances going on. These factors inspire me to write reviews in praise of "Headstates", and don't think that these two songs are the only good thing about the album. Detroit monsters rear their melodic heads every once in a while, and add a lot of variety to the overall sound of the album. I can't find a track that's dull on this album. I recommend you investigate for yourself!
