A while ago I made a request on this list for information regarding Beaumont Hannant's Ormeau CD singles. There were questions raised as to whether more than one CD actually existed, but now the answer is here. Facts: There are two 12" singles, GENP(X)33 and GENP(R)33, both with completely different tracks. There are two CD singles, GENP(CD)33 and GENP(CD)33--you read that right--and they have entirely _the same_ tracks. The only differences between the CD singles are these: One CD has black silk-screened writing on it, with the rest of the CD being clear. The other is silk-screened maroon with the writing being clear (i.e. no paint making the writing, just the paint around it). The "clear" CD is annotated as being S GENPCD 33 01, per the etch in the center ring from the pressing plant. The "maroon" CD is S GENPCD 33 02. Otherwise, the tracks and running times are identical, as are the inserts, even down to the misprints on the inserts. What I don't know: If either one of the CDs is a "limited edition." If one of the CDs was supposed to have different tracks, but ended up being the same. Why the hell Disctronics and GPR would press two CD singles that are so similar and yet distinguish enough differences between them to designate them as "01" and "02." BTW, I would like some answers to what I don't know, if anyone has them... Andrew

Something else I would like to know in a related vein, is what is "Evening at Grange". Ages and ages ago I reviewed the Ormeau 12" singles on idm - not a very encouraging review as I recall, and Alan added it to the reviews archive, billing it as a review of Evening at Grange. cheers, J ^ __________ ________.__/_____ _||_/ James Skilton aka Steady J _[]/_____________[.__\____-_ DJ and Party Animal | Ae discog on-line now! | Part Time Hedonist |____________________________| Full Time Technohead |__|-' '-|__| Steady-J@Firefox.co.uk http://subnet.virtual-pc.com/~sk393820/

"Evening at the Grange" was a 5-song set done with Lida Husik. Husik is better known for a sort of folky-rocky style of singing and guitarizing, so this seemed an unlikely pair. I'm not really a folky-rocky fan. In fact, I hate the whole unshaved and uwashed concept. But that's my hang-up, I guess... Surprisingly - it works. And quite well! Husik and Hannant also released a full-length together, entitled simply "Husikesque". This replicates/duplicates/clones at least one cut from "Grange", but is otherwise varied and generally amusing material. The lyrics are often quite silly, which I like, but one need not bother oneself about that, as the singing style is quite abstract. In fact, Husik's voice works as another instrument meandering among Hannant's synthethic bleeps, melodic fragments, and trippy beats. Beau (well, if he's going to be Home on the Grange, then we're going to call him Beau, and there's just nothing the can do about that) shows to good effect(s) his usual command of texture and layering. I've not heard enough of Hannant's solo work (regrettably, as my friends are not generous enough to give me their entire collections) to compare, but I would say that either of these releases is a worthy listen.
