here's my review posted to another list on may 29: - vainqueur: elevation (chain reaction 7) a slight disappointment. i like the track in its two versions, minor key synth washes with some light ticking at 120 in the background. yes, no bassdrum, no snare, no hihat. sounding a little like a softer version of the final track of porter ricks' set that they played at the concert (which i still have to review). the problem i have with this record is... it's quite hard to mix because of that strange ticking... arrh! i haven't played this for several weeks now and i consider it to be the worst in the series. harald schmitz wrote:

seems to be general consensus in the media... but i disagree. the slightly (german-style-)trancy sound is of course unfashionable (which is, in this case, a plus), and 154 bpm are also not what current dj's think they can "use". so what? i think it's a nice change, and a perfect translation of old sounds into the chain reaction / basic channel language. i prefer this over cr 06 and 07. cheers + mazzel, p.

I listened to this (CR 08) the other day and was vehemently repulsed. It sounds like Euro without vocals - a played-out, rigid, funkless drumloop with obnoxious synth masturbation over the top. *What* were they thinking? - Matthew
