Hi ho...
Last night I attended the 2nd happening of a new Tuesday night weekly
in Boston (DV8/Axis upstairs) called *Trainspot*. I must impart that it is
living up to it's name with as much earnestly as Landsdowne Street would allow.
When I walked in the door I spied appx 125+ kats in all shapes, sizes,
and styles cutting up the rug and crowding the bar. Resident Benny Blanco was
on the decks furiously doing the "Benny Mix Bob" ;) as he rolled out the
flavor wave. The tunes were decidedly thumpy techno but percussive and rich
with melodic tones and engaging themes.
At 12midnight, special guest Joelektronik from New England Works took
command of the knobs and worked the mix like Sugar Ray bobbing and weaving
his Chicagoey tracks with dangerous uppercuts of bass. His set stretched
out deeper into the 313 state of mind with a spicing of the clickity clack via
Metroplex and Carl Craig. Very well done!
Benny returned at 1am to continue the education in good taste with such
otherworldly IDM feats as playing back to back RAC (doublejointed/tangents...
shit that sounded REAL cool on a PA!). From talking w/Benny I learned that
earlier in the night (doors at 10) he entertains with an even MORE IDMesque
set of AI and AI2 and everything that we thought would never *make it* to
clubland. After a few jokes about dropping in a Dragon Disc I hit the road
with the charming glow of inspiration and high hopes that this is start of
something
truly special in the usually uninspired and flavorless Boston Club Scene.
Teep
PS next week is special guest Marcus Todd CUthere!
PPS promoters Central Pivot had smattered the walls of DV8 with blown
up photocopies of the XLR8 definition of a Trainspotter.
