Yesterday my wife said she was watching Mtv and she said she heard EBTG's "before Today." I know EBTG is not IDM, that track is very drum n' bass, no matter what you call it. I would hate to see if Mtv gets hold of drum n bass. Once they get their hands on a genre they ruin it all. Knock on wood folks, I know EBTG isn't anything like Squarepusher or Tpower, but it makes no difference, GREEN DAY is not a good punk band but look what Mtv did for punk. SEX PISTOLS are back? OH no! Keep your eyes peeled, we may be doomed, may be not. my $.02 worth gil /\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\ NAME:Gil aka GMV500 E-MAIL: videla@colorado.edu WEB PAGE: yeah, right! check out my friends- http://ares.csd.net/~albumsup - http://www.uea.ac.uk/~u9506276 PHILOSOPHY: AMBIENT+BREAKDANCE= IDM FINAL WORDS: MORE BEER! \/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\\/\\/\/\/\\//\/\/\/\/\/\/\\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/

I don't know anything about Mouse on Mars except that their track "Subnubus" on the _Folds and Rhizomes for Gilles Deleuze_ compilation (Sub Rosa) is very very good. You might be interested to find out that (the other) 1/2 Microstoria is Markus Popp, 1/2 Oval. Oval is supposed to have a "vs." with Tortoise coming out sometime...anyone got any info on that? eric From Lub@uba.uva.nl Tue 9 96 Jul Received: by taz.hyperreal.com (8.6.12/8.6.5) id AAA19064; Tue, 9 Jul 1996 00:33:10 -0700 Received: by taz.hyperreal.com (8.6.12/8.6.5) id AAA19044; Tue, 9 Jul 1996 00:33:06 -0700 Received: from mail.ic.uva.nl by taz.hyperreal.com (8.6.12/8.6.5) with SMTP id AAA19039; Tue, 9 Jul 1996 00:33:03 -0700 Received: from ubamail.uba.uva.nl by mail.ic.uva.nl with SMTP id AA29411 (5.67b/IDA-1.4.4 for <idm@hyperreal.com>); Tue, 9 Jul 1996 09:33:05 +0200 Message-Id: <199607090733.AA29411@mail.ic.uva.nl> Received: by ubamail.uba.uva.nl with VINES ; Tue, 9 Jul 96 09:36:46 CET Date: Tue, 9 Jul 96 06:43:40 CET From: Piet=Lub@uba.uva.nl Subject: (idm) dear [ZAPPO] readers - add explanation To: idm@hyperreal.com Sender: owner-idm@hyperreal.com Precedence: bulk Forwarded to: ext[idm@hyperreal.com] cc: Comments by: Piet Lub@ld@uba.uva.nl Comments: Info about how to subscribe / unsubscribe the zappo list. Rock N' Roll and Drum N' Bass are far removed from one another (despite the presence of an 'N in both names), so asserting that the conditions and results of MTV picking up punk rock and making it successful in the mainstream also apply to Drum N' Bass music is fallacious. Would be interesting though... just think, I could just walk down to the local Wal Mart any time I wished and buy the new Photek for $10.99 on sale... no, wait a minute, ummmm..... GOD NO! I also saw a video by Robert Miles, (technoey stuff) that isgetting a ton of airtime. God no, what is happening, can we do anything to stop it? I think Mtv has found their alternative to "alternative" and we will be screwed if it continues. At least IMHO, just look at how all other genres have become awful since Mtv got their hands on it, and trust me techno/IDM/jungle whatever will be no different. There is nothing mightier than the dollar, nothing. See, since Mtv was at that Woodstock thing and there was a rave and techno there, Mtv realizes if it can sell @woodstock it will sell anywhere. You gotta hand it to those bastards though, they sure know how to co opt artists to make a ton of money. my $.02 worth, g /\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\ NAME:Gil aka GMV500 E-MAIL: videla@colorado.edu WEB PAGE: yeah, right! check out my friends- http://ares.csd.net/~albumsup - http://www.uea.ac.uk/~u9506276 PHILOSOPHY: AMBIENT+BREAKDANCE= IDM FINAL WORDS: MORE BEER! \/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\\/\\/\/\/\\//\/\/\/\/\/\/\\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/

microstoria (jan st werner and markus popp, as has been pointed out) have a successor to "init ding" out. it's called "snd", also on mille plateaux, which i prefer over init ding (although it's similar). on last: ebtg - walking wounded, mixed over "magenta 2" by monolake (chain reaction 8) last novel i finished (i'm reading about 20 books at the moment, so don't ask me about the list of *that*): nick hornby: high fidelity (read it for the second time). enough blabber, p.
