hi all just got a promo of black dog productions new lp this morning. it is out 22nd of july. i'm onto my second listen now but thought i'd give ya some first impressions. can he do it without ed and andy? is the question on most peoples mind and after hearing this i would say no trouble. this music is a bit different from say spanners. less frantic and lurching, but where as plaid have turned into being clever for clever's sake. ken has kept the soul and let's face it it is the tunes & emotion that are important and here we have 4 sides of it. "dumb & dumber" the opening track seems to me to be the weakest thing on the album, lurching sampled strings and little else but then "the wind spirit" kicks in and we're in dog land. everything flows into each other and there is a strong eastern flavor which rises up periodically, shades of "psil-cosyn". there is also a jungle element which pops up too. the eno refence is well justified as some of this stuff is weel influenced by another green word & music for films. "AGW" i heard in store last week and was knocked out by though i didn't at that time know it was bdp. it is kinda dr whoish. side three really rocks "euthanasia" chasing it's own little manhattan. "meditation no4" lulls us w/ koto and floatingbass. at times the only thing i can describe the lp as is amphetamene electro. but then it is lush too. "disench" is heartrending chords with a sweet fanfare, while "minour" is a funky electosnake. "kheprit" ends the lp in dense rhythmic shades. when ed and andy left i was so pissed. i thought the lovelest music had benn done and gone but this one is great first time and second time it is really growing ther is also plenty to make you think WHAT THE F*** . gimme till 2morrow and i may just have gone ape with the beauty of it. peace john
