"...I think it's just a big misconception about the production of the
music, and the idea of computer sequencing is not the only way to make it.
It could consist of strings, or analogue sounds or all digital. It could
contain voices, non-voices, samples, anything. It could be footsteps,
anything. It could be 98 bpm, 200 bpm, or 500. So I think the media has a
lot of explaining to do for one, and they should stop trying to put a face
on it. It's not like pop music, it's faceless."
"Detroit techno has been around for a while and if you had to classify
what the sound is, which even for me is very difficult to explain. Maybe
it's the people? May be it's the city? I don't know. But, I mean, the
city isn't so bleak. It's not so gloomy for everyone in Detroit, you can't
say it's that. When other people put it down to the automobile industry,
they're just guessing. While I lived there it was great, I had a good
time. I wanted more to do, so I moved, first to New York and then to
Chicago. Detroit wasn't big enough."
