Hello, Just wanted to give some quick reviews on a few things I've picked up recently ... I don't normally write reviews, so these are a little rough, I s'pose. ISAN - salamander This was actually disappointing, I was expecting a lot more from others' good reviews of it, and on the strength of the remix on the Warp 10 compilation. There are a few really good tracks (twentyfive thirtyone is excellent), but a lot of the other tracks have some leads that I find extremely disagreeable - both in terms of the melody and the synths they used. I guess overall its a decent release, but I'd say stay away from it if you dislike cheesy melodies. Dettinger - Intershop Someone recommended this to me, I can't remember why ... anyway its very good. Somehow I think this sounds like a cross between Jochem Paap's ambient stuff and Thomas Brinkmann's repetitive techno. Very nice mixture, very soothing. Penguin Mechanics Vol III Really pleased with this one - nice mix of clanky, crunchy, even sometimes ambient-ish (like the lackluster track), but always mechanical. I was very impressed with the first track by Versh Gear Choir - great arrangement of rhythmic noise; (does this act have any other releases???? do they sound like this track?) Also, the brothomstate track is brilliant... I hope he gets some more stuff released soon, I'm betting we are missing out on some great music. I don't have the CD handy, but I remember being impressed by the Freeform and Proem tracks as well. kettel (on mp3.com) I haven't dug around much on mp3.com, because in the past all the stuff I downloaded was crap. But recently I've been checking it out again, and stumbled over this, and its really excellent stuff. Abstract electronic, with strong rhythms, dare I say autechre-like. Again, anyone have more info on this act? Saint 13 CDR Just bought this out of the blue from pj's list, its on the aii label (website is http://aii.fm, I believe). The first track isn't so good, but don't let that turn you off, because the other three tracks are excellent. Not too sure how to describe it, basically rich, black dog-type abstract techno. Bottom line : crap. yet another label to soak up my cash. regards, aronne ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
