Polyrhythmic, highly structured complex beats, funky but without the "funk" of Jake Slazenger, say. Good clever stuff, but if it came down to a choice between this and "Anvil Vapre" I know where I'd stand. I didn't like it. I thought it was technically over-sophisticated for it's own good, as Pyke doesn't demonstrate enough practical skill in song-creation, and focuses instead on layering sequenced noise. It's nice maybe the first few listens, but has been collecting dust on my shelf since i first bought it a month ago. Thought I'd get all your valued opinions before shelling out for Freeform's "Prowl" ... Prowl by Freeform is worth a listen, when I first played it it gave me a feeling I haven't felt since Aphex Twin released his Didgeridoo 12". Freeform makes listening music (except maybe for the last track that's more or less danceable). Saying that it is a crossing between AFX and Autechre would be a faint explanation. The tracks carry freaky sounds, are minimally constructed but don't appear to get boring. If uncertain try and pursuade your record shop if you can listen to it (normal way of working for me).
