After listening to "Icct Hedral (Philip Glass Orchestration)" off _Donkey Rhubarb_ yesterday, I remembered that awhile back there was mention of an Aphex Twin/Philip Glass album. Is this still in the works? I have heard nothing about this collaboration in quite a long time. +----------------------------------+ | Eric Frans | | franse@bigdog.engr.arizona.edu | +----------------------------------+

It's the first I hear of it, but needless to say it could be a marvellous work of art. If you can enjoy Aphex Twin in his usual self and a orchestration by Philip Glass in his sounding self 'carressing' your ear and molding your brains, then this is truly worth checking out. I'd listen to them -seperately that is- any of day, ut this......

I thought Donkey Rhubarb was just a misunderstood ep everyone was wrongly calling a full James/Glass collab. This was over a year ago now, so I seriously doubt anything has been sitting around for that long. Anyway, in my humble opinion the Aphex Twin makes Philip Glass look kind of like a little kid. That is, if you discount the rest of Donkey Rhubarb... e (Why is there no soundtrack album for A Brief History of Time?)

Dont you come and call Phillip Glass a little kid .. he is one of the creators for everything that Richard D James stands for... try sitting down and listening to th eopera Einstein On The Beach by Phillip Glass, or baymbe some stuff from Steve REich .. You will find that most of the ideas for our times Inteligent listening music, and IDM is based on ideas from exactly the composers in the minimalist period, in the 1960- 1990. There might be a problem for phillip to work within the frames of the song becasue after all his job isn't to make a totally new song , but to transfer it over to orchestral music. i think he uses the orchestra to it's maximal in his orchestration, more than that can you not ask of him.. it's my oppinion but anyway.. Glass is no KID > > That is, if you discount the rest of Donkey Rhubarb... > > > > >

Funny this topic should come up. I was looking through my copy of Future Music (I think it's called that) with AFX and Glass on the front cover. It had a page on what Glass thought of RDJ, and a page on what RDJ thought of Glass. One question asked to Mr. Twin was what material was he working on currently (at the time). AFX mentioned the HAB series on [WARP], but then also mentioned an album of children's television themes he was working on. Hmm. Something to have fun with soon I hope. I look at all of his releases as fun. The Dean-O-Matic

Uh...he makes stuff up when he talks to journalists. Don't hold your breath. For a boffin from Cornwall, he can sure have your average member of the press on in a big way. I don't remember which mag it was in, but there was one 'interview' I read where he made the journo meet him at a laser tag joint in Piccadilly, and then apparently said very little, as there were maybe two short direct quotes inthe article. Luckily the journo was able to fill out the piece with some post-modern jive talk. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Check the lame home page http://soli.inav.net/~kent/ Kent Williams kent@inav.net CADSI 2651 Crosspark Road Coralville IA 52241 (319) 338 6053 (home) (319) 626 6700 x 219 (work) (319) 626 3489 (fax)
