Just a thought. Years ago before I was into House and Techno and all the
rest of it, I knew a guy who was and who told me that once you got into
it you ended up listening to nothing else. At the time I thought that
this was rather odd and I didn't really believe him. However here I am
seven or eight years down the line and I haven't bought a record that isn't
dance music since 1990. Admittedly I started buying Ambient House then
got into Techno and Hardcore and now I mostly buy Deep House, but now I
can see what he ment. However I don't consider it an addiction compaired
to the other addictions I have: cigarettes, beer, weed, etc...
I can see however that I have a real _need_ to go down to my local record
store ("Pure Groove" on Holloway Road, London, UK) at least once a week
even if I have no money just to check-out the new tunes and see what I can
buy on pay day.
So yes in away I guess I am addicted to buying records but I don't think its
really to do with the type of music, I mean have you ever seen the state some
jazz-buffs get into when they find a classic old tune they've been looking
for for ten years?
Buying records is a hobby and it is from the _love_ of the music that we do
it, not because the tunes don't become boring after a week and we want new
ones all the time. though I addmit I have a few records in my collection
which I haven't listened to since a week after I bought them, many others
however stand the test of time as well as any other type of music.
Anyway thats just my opinion,
