what's up, idm-ers! in reply to joseph's query re: luke's new one, all i
can say is this: pretty damn good. :) i won't mislead you and say that
it's the best thing luke has ever done, because it's not (in my humble
opinion); it is, however, an hour's worth of really fun tunes. as the
oh-so all-encompassing preview text on the astralwerk's site says, it's
loaded w/ hawaiian stuff, in the form of bj's gorgeous steel guitar work,
as well as plenty of other exotic stuff. there's a little bit of jungle
two-step beats (with a *really* catchy bassline) in "Baby Steps". there's
even freakin' banjo work on here (and it sounds sweeeet)! all-in-all, the
great beats and cheesy samples and riffs that have been so prevalent
throughout luke's career are very present here as well, except enhanced by
bj cole's marvelous guitar, banjo, and cheng playing. for vibert
enthusiasts, i'd rank it, at least, on par with Tally Ho!, but not as good
as Big Soup or definitely not the monumental D'n'B for Papa (but what can
touch that?!). in other words, it's a nice, groovy album, and if you're a
fan of luke's you won't be disappointed. :)
peas & love,
rev. eric
ps - for those who know: i'll see you at the el rey show next thursday.
i'll be the guy in the black trench & all polyester. ^_^
