actually, ornette has his own _label_ right now; a subsidiary of verve called, appropriately, harmolodic. he still plays and records regularly with his ensemble prime time, and his most recent album with them, "tone dialing," came out last year. his son, denardo (who first appeared on ornette's mid-'70s album, "the empty foxhole," at the age of, like, nine) does percussion and some drum loops on the album, and it's the most uncompromising fusion of experimental jazz (or _any_ typa jazz, for that matter) and hip-hop i've ever heard. don't even think jazzmatazz 'cuz that shit is _weak_ in comparison (well, it's weak _anyway_ in my opinion, but "tone dialing" has some pretty crazy shit on it...)...that in mind, i wouldn't figure an oc/mp collab. as being too far-fetched... sc

Let me stand corrected, and repeat "Fuck Yeah!"
quoted 3 lines his son, denardo (who first appeared on ornette's mid-'70s album,> his son, denardo (who first appeared on ornette's mid-'70s album, > "the empty foxhole," at the age of, like, nine) does percussion and > some drum loops on the album,
And if you EVER see a copy of "The Empty Foxhole" snap it up. It SOUNDS like what it is -- a 9 year old bashing the crap out of a trap set, with his dad sawing at a violin as if it was the first time he ever touched the instrument. But after you hear it 7 or 8 times an amazing beauty begins to show itself like a small boat riding stormy seas. This is one of the original "WHOA!" records. And when you've digested that move onto "Interstellar Space" by John Coltrane and Rashied Ali, which you can listen to a thousand times and NEVER hear everything that's going on.
