I got the chance to listen to a Cabaret Voltaire lp the other day. It was from 92. I can't remember the title. First track was named :::low cool... Some of the tracks sounded as the tracks made by Kirk alone. I'm refering to ::: frequency band - Warp sampler 1994, :::? - AI2. Mallinders voice did not appear, which made me happy. Kirk/Mallinder released at least three lps during 91, anybody out there, having opinions of these?

Plasticity. Low Cool, of course, is famous for the long bit of dialog about gang slang. Great album. Funky laid back beats. One of my fave Gramaphone used rack finds. --------------------------------------------------------------------- "... when digital distortes it stores a bit on the bottom, breaking the wave. The album you refer to is 'Plasticity', part one of a trilogy; also the last 3 albums CV have put out. Basically Mallinder didn't have a whole lot tp contribute to these albums-RHK pretty much pulled them off solo (thus no SM vocals). All three rock, I think the second, 'International Langauge is the best one. Onc complteted, RHK decided to make a name for himself outside the 'enigma' of CV and put out his Sandoz, Sweet Exorcist and solo work. The CV albums/EP's prior to '92 are (not obviously going ALL the way back-just the techno/house stuff): Body and Soul (groovy/esoteric mix of Chicago House, a little Detroit Techno and CV's weird lyrics) Percusion Force (more of the same-twisted acid house remixes of Body and Sould w/ trademark RHK bleepy quality) Colours -can't even describe this beyond a grungy mutation of the above styles, but VERY good. Basically it was this work I think that (I'm just theorizing) RHK latched onto techno and the burgeoning (vocal-less) IDM movement. Perhaps both he and SM realized that maybe SM's vocals simply weren't needed anymore. Next came out the Plasticity, International Language, and The Conversation Trilogy. Mallinder did have input into this project. As for the 91 stuff, I really dig the Percussion Force EP on Le Disque du Crepuscule. If we're talking about HIA (the Higher Intellingence Agency), they put out an album in 1993 called colourform on Beyond Records. Very pretty stuff, good to chill to...I know there are copies of it still floating around here in San Diego's stores. --Paul P.

Actually, HIA has a more recent release with Pete Namlook called S.H.A.D.O on Pete's Fax label. I highly recommend this release. Very IDM-ish is suppose ( I hate these three little letters). In any event. It's very well produced and provides lots of variations of rhythms and musical structure. Still retains that HIA quality. Will be getting this in on vinyl as well. I picked this up instead of numerous Coil's, NWWs, the Ae Anti vinyl (tho I have one held *whew* next week be able to post what speed Flutter is actually meant to be played @ =) etc etc... Was very happy with the purchase (and the price... been a long time since I spent $12 for a cd) I have a few quick little RealAudio samples up with an excellent review by an ambient list member @ http://www.sonic.net/~brap/text.html The review is pretty good reading also... __________________________________________ brap@sonic.net *** sfwd@sonic.net http://www.sonic.net/~brap/ DOT.info.station the.hardcore.outdated.GPO.page c.Gosselin, POBox8264, Santa Rosa, CA 95407

just picked up hia's freefloater, and just wanted to say that it rocks!
