Hello, has anyone from england heard of the word "Gurner?" I was reading my last edition of Muzik magazine(a damn fine mag) and came across a page with a caption reading, "Gurner of The Month" and showing a guy who was totally wasted. I then went back and read other editions, looking for the previous "Gurners of the month", and most looked like they took one too many E's. So, does Gurner mean someone who is really wasted, or just an out of the ordinary looking individual? Cheers. ---------------------- James Benjamin Gill jgill@u.arizona.edu check it on the www - peace.

Well I'm from South Africa and most people I know talk about gurning out to fine techno music. In fact I remember a local magazine review of one of the Underground Raves I produced back in '93 mentioned that people were gurning to the music... I guess down south in Elephant Overload Land "Gurning" means to trip out to cool music. I think the term is a Brit import tho'. On the subject of Brit words and terminology it's really weird that in South Africa the terms seem to mutate and take on local meanings. Like Bong -> U.K. it's what we in S.A. call a Hubbly -> S.A. it's what the U.K people call a reefer Kif ek se! Matthew _________________________________________________________________ Matthew D. Gurning, the term comes from a Yorkshire (I think) tradition of pulling faces. Basically these blokes sat around in the pub, taking turns to pull the ugliest most ridiculous face whilst wearing a horses collar around their necks. Todays usage refers to the contorted faces people pull when under the effects of speed or E, wich tend to cause contraction of the facial muscles, and are losing it to music comprised mainly of repetitive beats. jeff OnSony: Drum n Space 3, 1st Listen, Thanks Tom!!!!

I have very little to trade, but I still want 'Kaboose' on vinyl; so if you want to send me the stuff your looking for, if I don't have it I'll buy it.(or we can work something out). Does that sound ok?Let me know when you get a chance. thanks! Stephen. PS. Your in Holland, right? I found a shop called 'Ellesdesia' in Rotterdam that has Train-tracs on white vinyl but to my disgust for the same technical reason I can't mail to their address.Grrrrr!

Cheers. Gurners are guys who pull stupid faces for 'Gurning' competitions, generally old gits on a crap pension with nothing better to do except drink themselves silly and babble about garbage. It might not sound too interesting, but some of these swines can touch their eyebrows with their bottom lip - it's pretty scary. A good trick if you can learn it. Also, 'Gurner' is used to describe a raver who can't help screwing up his face because he's taken too much E, rat poison or god-knows-what and is bombed out of his little mind. Generally young gits on dole with nothing better to do except get high and.. er.. babble about garbage. As a point of interest, Anthea Turner and Tony Blair are known as gurners, though sadly for the first reason, not the second. Cheers, SjaY. *Fido* 2:250/151 *E-Mail* Geotrax@jukjoint.warp.co.uk ...
